Welcome to SWALPA
Namaskara! Welcome to SWALPA (Spoken Words And Language Practical Acquisition โ and yes, we totally forced that backronym ๐).

๐ฏ Our Mission
Our goal is to provide a phonetic-only, Bangalore-functional Kannada learning resource. This guide is built specifically for non-Kannada speakers in Bangaloreโsuch as IT professionals, recent migrants, and long-term residentsโwho want to survive and thrive through spoken language without needing to learn the formal written script (yet).
๐ฅ Target Audience
This guide is for you if:
- You live in Bangalore and want to interact confidently with neighbors, auto drivers, shopkeepers, and colleagues.
- You want to learn practical, street-smart Kannada (the Bangalore dialect, like Oota aitha? instead of the textbook Oota madidira?).
- You find learning a new script intimidating and prefer to learn through transliteration (reading Kannada words in English letters).
- You relate well to Hindi logical bridges, which we use to make grammar easier to grasp intuitively (e.g., using Hindi parallels like Mujhe -> Nanage).
๐น๏ธ Play & Practice
Test your "street level" Kannada in these Bangalore-specific scenarios:
- ๐บ Meter Haaki Negotiate fares at Indiranagar Metro and survive the ride.
- ๐งฉ Suffix Station Master grammar endings like -ge and -alli in a fast-paced challenge.
- ๐ง Kelisi & Gurtisi Train your ears to recognize spoken Kannada phrases.
